01-22 Winter Hike

Mike Hikes for President!

• We did an amazing 6+ mile hike on on 1/22/22 at the Franklin Parker Preserve

• We followed the WISE method

• It is going to be cold, so remember to be W.I.S.E. when choosing your layers!

  • W – your first layer should WICK away moisture. Any shirt that is not cotton (like a soccer uniform shirt) can work well.

  • I – your next layer should INSULATE. A fleece or anything warm is good … avoid cotton!

  • S – your outer SHELL should protect from precipitation and wind. A rain jacket or poncho will do the trick.

  • E – be sure to pack EXTRA layers. This is for when we cool off during a break or if your clothes get wet. And if you only have cotton layers, it’s ok…you can swap them out with your extras as needed.

• We also like the WISER method, which is repeating the above.

• We had seven scouts and six leaders attend this event.

• Thomas gave new meaning to the phrase "car wash"

• Everyone figured out that we were in an old Cranberry Bog!
